This page serves to plan the agenda for the session, then logs the finalized minutes, as well as information necessary for final summary, upon the completion.
START A BIT > Learning Packages > LP2517: Special Onboarding Workshop, 25w17 > This page
Open event for new ones without prior-knowledge
Get familiar with very basic tools & apps for programming
1-3 corner projects (not finalized, might adjust) to bring 1st experience with Micro:bit, some fun projects making.
Interesting meeting with many new friend at younger age, and their parents
Good feedback about our event
Well prepared plans and materials, as well as good demo of many interesting projects
English talking, better involving mix-blood kids, it's good result, we actually should promote more and more active computer programming learning in English
A few kids are too young at about 7 years old, they have difficulty to read even simple English words, so it's not working for them to use even graphical block programming like MakeCode... Still need to have a minimum requirement of 8+ and with simple English reading ability
"Corner C" activity doesn't happen, so it's a plan that shouldn't be prepared, Corner A and B are already good enough
Teaching Assistant as a good try to engage our elder students, but it's not well guided this time, need to have better detailed plan for them next time
No fees charged this time, but we do bear some obvious costs like printed papers, consuming materials like wires and batteries, logistic cost like parking, it's not sustainable to be totally free if organizing such open event, we should consider charging some little supporting fees around 50Kr
The tutor team bears everything needed, we don't charge anything from the participants, even though there are indeed some materials and logistic costs at the back of stage. We are happy to support! But as a reflection, we should consider charing a little supporting fee next time for similar event.
Pretty much as planned, but Corver C didn't happen. Corver A and B were in parallel, we spent more time and focus on Corver A, but Corver B was flexible and open for some students having fun themselves, without tutoring. All were good!
10:00-10:10: Start up
Know each other
Name, age, experience of making
How do you feel today? General mood
What do you expect to get(see/hear/make) today?
Who we are and what we do
The plan and content for today
10:10-10:40: Free Demo using Micro:bit #1, brief the program and download for demo at the class.
Showing that a single 1 microcontroller/minicomputer by program, it can act as a main brain for different smart purpose of sensing the outside world, controlling the movement or visualization to the outside world
PJ012: Traffic Lights with Pedestrian Request Button: Minicomputer controlled system, using button input and LED output
PJ007: Wire Game with Micro:bit: Minicomputer controlled gaming system, using virtual button input
PJ013: Fun Controlling of Continuous Servo Motor: Minicomputer controlled movement by servo motor
PJ009.4: Help MOVE Vehicle Avoiding Collision : Minicomputer controlled smart vehicle
PJ021: Make Music Box with the Buzzer and Arduino: Just show another type of microcontroller and a hint of what we are learning recently
Video show about Robot SM (directly using iPhone connecting to projector)
10:40-10:50: Demo the wanted projects today: We start from a very basic making
11:00-11:45 Corner A activity: Project making from zero with Micro:bit, no matter if you have prior-experience or not, please follow us for at least 30 minutes, there are reflection questions, and it's always good to repeat and review what you understand
Standing knowledge point here: KB026: Dev Work Flow for Micro:bit and Arduino
11:30-12:00 Corner B activity: Vehicle project making by own exploration
Sum up and reflection:
What have you gained today?
What do you still want to know?
12:00-15:00: Extended making if anyone wants to stay and continue fun
