24w37 A Mini Workshop for Newcomers 

• Welcome newcomers, get prepared for LP2438

• Get familiar with very basic tools & apps

• 1st experience with Micro:bit

• Good focused workshop only for newcomers! We fixed the very basic tools and applications, get prepared for next step learning

• Nice meeting new friends, welcome new learners!

• Nice experience reusing the good materials that we developed,KB001: Atom, Electrons, Current, Voltage and PJ000: 1st Experience with Micro:bit and MakeCode. 

• WiFi seems very slow, at least it's very suffering for one student, no idea exactly why, but was an obvious annoying issue

• One student found it difficult to read the English materials, could be hard for this newcomer, who needed to spare more effort to catch up later on

Below is a template, will update with facts when the session is done.

• 2 students participated

• The variable costs to share: 117.9 Kr

  • 24.9+27  Kr: Fika snack

  • 66 Kr: Tutor parking 9:59-12:10

• The fixed consuming materials costs: 20 Kr/student/session

  • 20 Kr per student: Compensate the consuming cost of tools and materials for projects (like printed paper, stationery, cables, batteries, fragile components, etc.)

• So, every participant pays: 117.9/2 + 20 = 78.95 Kr

• 10:05-10:15: Late arriving, then still an introduction of the learning group and the goal for this day

• 10:15-10:40: Still having necessary study for KB001: Atom, Electrons, Current, Voltage  

• 10:40:-11:10: Project making part 1

  • Task 1: Micro:bit "Unboxing" Experience

  • Task 2: First Experience with MakeCode and the Making Flow

• 11:15-11:35: Project making part 2

  • Continued Task 2: First Experience with MakeCode and the Making Flow for 1 student who didn't finish earlier

  • Task 3: Identify Key HW Components on Mico:bit

  • Homework assignment: 

    • Challenge 1: Baby Faces

    • Challenge 2: Digital Dice (Numeral/Graphical)

So, it's the simple homework, but not the planned homework originally

• 10:00-10:10:

  • Welcome and introduction

  • Turn on laptop, connect Wi-Fi

• 10:10-10:30: TIME BOXED

  • Quick reading and highlighting some key points from KB001: Atom, Electrons, Current, Voltage  

• 10:30-11:30: Project making

  • PJ000: 1st Experience with Micro:bit and MakeCode: Basic tasks, about 30'

    • Task 1: Micro:bit "Unboxing" Experience

    • Task 2: First Experience with MakeCode and the Making Flow

    • Task 3: Identify Key HW Components on Mico:bit

    • Optional: Task 4: Make Your 1st Own Program 

  • Fika break, expected to be around 10:50-11:00

  • PJ000: 1st Experience with Micro:bit and MakeCode: Challenges, about 30'

    • Challenge 1: Baby Faces

    • Challenge 2: Digital Dice (Numeral/Graphical)

• Homework:

  • PJ005: Digital Counter with Micro:bit or

  • PJ008: Light Triggered Alarm Clock with Micro:bit
