We had assigned homework to design self-defined project for the Learning Package ending challenge. This is open chance, no specific requirement or limit, we encourage the students to use the learnt knowledge as possible, we also encourage them to take out-of-box explorations, try to seek help to use some un-learnt techniques or knowledge in advance, like ultrasonic sensor, servo motor, etc.
Here is the work done by Erxi, an interesting intelligent parking system.
The hardware used:
LEGO pieces
Handcraft model simulating the parking controlling room, blocking pole, etc.
The features in demo:
When a car comes from the outside, moves close to the gate, ultrasonic sensor detects it, the program checks if there is available parking lot
If yes, then show a happen check icon on LED matrix, play a welcome sound, open the gate, reduce the number of available parking lots, after 3 seconds, close the gate
If no, then show a cross icon on LED matrix, sound a warning, keep the gate closed
When a car moves from the inside, since there is not enough ultrasonic sensor, so the workaround is to press button to inform a car is moving away, then the counting of available parking lots increases, the gate opens to let the car going out
